10-19-11 Girls win sectional soccer match

MARTINSBURG — Hampshire High’s girls scored their first-ever soccer victory over Martinsburg, their first sectional playoff victory since the state split Class AAA from A-AA and their first shutout of the Bulldogs Tuesday night.

The 2-0 victory earns the Trojans a trip to Jefferson Thursday evening to face the second-seeded Cougars. The two teams tied in the regular season.

The Trojans’ victory came on the strength of an early goal from Emilynn Corbin and a free kick by Jayden Ware as the game wound down.

Martinsburg fired 14 shots in the game, but Hampshire keeper Shelby Kaiser stopped them all, recording nine saves.

The boys fell in their sectional game, 7-0 at Jefferson. They finish the year 1-17-2.
