1-14-12 Two area ladies competing in Miss America pageant

Two young women from the area will be competing on stage in tonight’s Miss America pageant.

Miss West Virginia, Spenser Wempe of Martinsburg, and Miss Maryland, Carlie Colella of Hagerstown, have been gearing up for  the pageant being held at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The winner will receive a college scholarship.

Wempe is a student at Shepherd University and is studying Political Science. She visited several Hampshire County elementary schools last fall.

Colella is a student at Hood College.

The Miss America pageant will be telecast live tonight (Saturday) at 9 p.m. on ABC.
