County offices moving Friday

Kelly Hicks, West Virginia Extension Agent prepares to move a box of educational materials to the renovated building behind the courthouse.

ROMNEY — The Hampshire County planning, extension, parks and recreation and maintenance offices are moving to a new location Friday.

All will relocate in the renovated former jail that housed the sheriff’s department.

A total of seven employees work at the four offices.

Kelly Hicks is the Hampshire County extension agent.

“We are very much looking forward to unpacking all of our boxes and locating to a permanent location,” said Hicks.

Hicks said they are excited about the move and wanted to express her appreciation of all the time, planning and work that the local building commission members and county commissioners have put into making the renovation possible.

The extension office will house Hicks, WVU extension agent; the Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Agent (position currently vacant); Leah Kidner, administrative assistant and CEOS advisor; Veva Nield, Youth Nutrition Outreach instructor; Anita Fairley, Adult Nutrition Outreach instructor.

The Hampshire County Planning Commission will be located toward the rear of the building and will house Charlie Baker, code and compliance officer, and administrative assistant Shirley Reed.

The remainder of the building will house the Hampshire County Park and Recreation department that currently employs one person and the county maintenance department.
