School board draws for staff seniority

ROMNEY — The Hampshire County Board of Education held a special meeting, its 21st meeting of the 2011-2012 school year, on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the offices of the Hampshire County Board of Education.
The following board members were in attendance: Bernard Hott, president; Linda Baker, vice president; Jim Breinig, Jean Shoemaker and Gerald Mathias, members.
Purpose: The Hampshire County Board of Education met in special session on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the offices of the Hampshire County Board of Education for the purpose of conducting personnel hearings and making personnel decisions. Regular business was also addressed.
Board members approved the agenda.

There were no appearances.
Personnel portion:
Superintendent Lewis and board members went into executive session to discuss personnel issues. No decisions were made in executive session.
Consent agenda item:
Board members approved the following consent agenda items for personnel:
1. Employment of substitute professional personnel:
Employ Amy Lewis as a substitute teacher on a long-term substitute permit endorsed for English and social studies effective Jan. 24, 2012.
Employ Rebecca McBride as a substitute teacher on a professional teaching certificate endorsed for elementary education K-6 effective Jan. 24, 2012.
Employ Erica Lee as a substitute teacher on a professional teaching certificate endorsed for elementary education K-6 effective Jan. 24, 2012.
Employ Melvin Nines as a long-term substitute for mathematics coach at Romney Elementary effective Jan. 24, 2012.
2. Employment of extra curricular personnel:
Employ Jessica Biser as the Young Writer’s coordinator (countywide) effective for the 2011-2012 school year.
Employ Jessica Biser as Chief GED examiner at Hampshire High effective Jan. 24, 2012.
3. Employment of substitute service personnel:
Employ Regina Love as a substitute aide (countywide) effective Jan. 24, 2011.

Non-consent agenda items:
A. Board members tabled decisions regarding the mutual consent agreements for employees for 2012-2013, transfers for professional and service personnel for 2012-2013, termination of the continuing contracts of employees for 2012-2013, termination of the extra-curricular contracts for 2012-2013, contract renewals for 2012-2013, new positions to be posted (if needed) for 2012-2013, and subsequent assignments for professional employees for 2012-2013. These will be voted on Monday night at the regular board of education meeting.
B. Board members approved revisions to Policy 0149.3 – Board-Staff Communications and 3112 – Board-Staff Communications.
C. Board members awarded the bid for the renovations to Augusta Elementary to Minghini’s General Contractors Inc. in the amount of $55,700.
